General English as a subject was available right from the inception of the college in the year 2000. However it was not until 2007 that the college received permission from the University of North Bengal to teach English as a specialized honours Subject. Over the years, the dept. of English has always attracted the largest number of students in the entire college, despite the fact that it operates with the smallest number of teaching staff. Dr. Arijit Chakraborty the Associate prof. in English) is the H.O.D of English, serving since 2002. Apart from him Dr. Ratan Chandra Das is the only SACT (state aided college teacher) associated with the department.

To strive for academic excellence and advance research expertise in English studies, incorporating allied disciplines like translation studies, culture studies, and comparative literature.To be globally acknowledged as a distinguished center of academic excellence .students adequate communication skills, preparing them for professional needs in a globalized scenario .
