Location and Layout
Nani Bhattacharya Smarak Mahavidyalaya (NBSM)’s Library, located on the ground floor, stands as a vital academic hub for both students and faculty. Managed by a dedicated librarian and staff, under the guidance of the Library Committee. It is thoughtfully designed with distinct modular sections to enhance usability and efficiency. These sections include a Registration & Circulation Desk, Textbook Section, Reference Section, Student and Teacher Reading Areas, Online Learning Cubicles, Journal and Magazine Corners, Special Collections, Technical Section, Librarian’s Cabin, Reprography, and a Baggage Corner. The layout ensures a conducive learning environment with adequate lighting, ventilation, water supply, and uninterrupted power, fostering a seamless and comfortable experience for all users.
Physical Infrastructure
The library is furnished with chairs and spacious tables, promoting a healthy and comfortable learning environment. The facility is well-equipped with appropriate lighting, ventilation, fans, water supply, and uninterrupted power to ensure optimal study conditions. Security is enhanced by CCTV surveillance, and Wi-Fi connectivity is available, making the library a modern, accessible space for academic pursuits.
Automation and Technology
The library is partially automated, utilizing the KOHA (Version 23.11.02.000) Integrated Library Management System (ILMS), integrated with an RFID system. Recent technological upgrades include an RFID gate, a self-circulation kiosk, and a stock rack search system with an RFID handheld reader. These advancements bolster security, streamline resource management, and optimize daily operations, ensuring the library functions efficiently.
Collection and Access
NBSM’s library houses a diverse and authoritative collection of over 7,500 books covering various subjects. This collection includes syllabus-oriented textbooks and reference materials, all accessible through an open-access system. The resources are systematically organized using the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) 19th edition, enabling easy location of materials by users.
Enhanced Academic Resources
Since 2022, the library has provided access to N-LIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content), significantly enriching the academic resources available to students and faculty, and further supporting their research and learning needs.
