National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a prominent youth program in India, launched on 24th September 1969 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It was inspired by the vision of Mahatma Gandhi, who believed in the transformative power of social service and community engagement. The NSS aims to instill values of social responsibility, empathy, and solidarity among students by involving them in various community development activities.
Originating from the idea that students can contribute significantly to the welfare of society while simultaneously developing their own personalities, the NSS operates on the principle of “Not Me But You.” This motto emphasizes the spirit of selfless service and collective action for the betterment of communities. Students enrolled in NSS participate in a wide range of activities such as cleanliness drives, literacy campaigns, health awareness programs, and rural development initiatives.

The NSS unit was first established at Nani Bhattacharya Smarak Mahavidyalaya in 2017. Since its inception, NSS has seamlessly integrated into the college’s academic framework, aiming to engage students within their community. The program focuses on fostering social responsibility among students, threading them together to achieve NSS objectives. Over the years, the NSS unit of the college has organized impactful initiatives such as Blood Donation camp, Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, Tree plantation drives, literacy program Yoga camp, and Self defense and awareness programs on women’s empowerment. Every effort of the NSS Unit of the college reflects its commitment to uplift the society and combat socio-economic challenges.
